Contact: Pete LaFleur (editor@collegefencing360.com)

Sunday's action at the Temple Invitational (Nov. 27, 2011) saw the men's matches go to form, based on the national rankings. #2 St. John's went 3-0 ... #4 Penn State was 2-1 (with a 13-14 loss to PSU) ... and #7 Princeton posted a 14-13 win over #8 Duke for a 1-2 record.

Four of the six men's matches were decided by 14-13 final scores, along with two comfortable wins by St. John's (17-10 vs. Princeton; 20-7 vs. Duke).

Penn State sophomore foilists David Willette (the 2010 NCAA runner-up) won all nine of his bouts, while three others went 8-1: St. John's junior epeeist Marat Israelian ('10 NCAA champ), SJU All-America sophomore sabreist Sean Buckley, and Princeton freshman sabreist Phil Dershwitz.

(Note: A handful of top fencers did not compete at Temple, with those elite competitors including 2010 NCAA sabre champ Daryl Homer of St. John's ... 2009 NCAA sabre champ Aleksander Ochocki of Penn State ... and PSU two-time NCAA foil semifinalist Miles Chamley-Watson).

The following rundown of the Temple Invitational men's competition is provided courtesy of CollegeFencing 360 (note: headshot size varies based on current website bio's – it's hard to imagine some of them being any smaller ... will try to swap-in larger images).

Northeast Fencing Conference Duals #3 Bouting Schedule (at Wellesley)

CollegeFencing360 will be compiling an overview of the Northeastern Fencing Conference (NFC) competition during the 2010-11 season, following Sunday's third round of duals meets (bouting schedule listed below). Heading into Sunday's dual meets at Welleseley, several teams still are in the running to claim the NFC regular-season titles:

• Four men's teams still can claim the NFC title (outright or shared) ... Brown and Boston College have finished their NFC dual matches with 8-2 records, while Sacred Heart (5-0) and Vassar (4-1) are in the running with five matches each on Sunday ... Sacred Heart already owns key head-to-head wins vs. Boston College and Brown (both 14-13), while Brown has a 16-11 win over Vassar and a 13-14 loss to BC ... the other key head-to-head result so far saw Vassar beat BC, 15-12 (boosting the Brewers' title chances).

• Things also remain up-in-the-air for the 2011 NFC women's title, as Brandeis and MIT completed their dual matches with 10-2 records while Vassar is 5-1 heading into its six matches on Sunday ... Vassar already owns the key head-to-head results, after beating Brandeis (15-12) and Brown (14-13) ... the Brandeis-Brown matchup also was a tight battle, won 14-13 by the Judges.
